Voting: Does one vote really count?
Here are some examples of when one vote really counted:
• By a margin of just one vote, Texas, California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho became states.
• In 1776, one vote gave America the English language instead of German.
• In 1960, one vote per precinct would have elected Richard Nixon rather than John F. Kennedy president.
• England’s King Charles I literally lost his head when the vote to behead him was 68 for and 67 against.
• On Nov. 8, 1923, members of a recently formed political party met at a beer hall in Munich to elect a leader, and by a majority of one vote, they chose an ex-soldier named Adolf Hitler.
